Test of English for Aviation (TEA)

The new ‘Language Proficiency Requirement’ regulations require knowledge of Aeronautical English in order to obtain and maintain radiotelephony in EnglishTo be able to fly abroad and in IFR in Italy, it is therefore necessary to achieve a language proficiency of at least Level 4 according to the ICAO scale.

Duration and venue

The TEA examination lasts approximately 25 minutes and is carried out directly at our premises, as Aeroclub Varese is a certified body for carrying out the test.

Test Structure

The test, developed by Mayflower College of Plymouth (UK), is structured in 3 parts:

  1. Interview: a short interview is conducted with the examiner.
  2. Interactive description: a series of recordings are listened to and discussed.
  3. Description and discussion: photographs in aeronautical contexts are shown, the candidate must describe the content.

The test will be recorded and assessed within 10 working days. Native speakers from Mayflower College of Plymouth (UK), will ensure the standard and carry out spot checks on tests assessed by local examiners. The certificates will be sent directly to Aeroclub Varese.
